Question of The Week
Do you think the movie My Name is Khan is controversial?
It's stupid. SRK is a Muslim. What's the big deal?

"My Name is Khan" is one of the most powerful movies in recent times. I urge all of you to see it. Demand it at your local Loews theaters if they aren't carrying it. The only controversy is why more people aren't focusing on the positive message this film emanates :)

still need to see the movie but i think bollywood is little late to the party. they should have made such movies maybe 4-5 yrs back

I think the underlying message behind this film was pretty powerful, SRK is king, for real. His acting was superb. However, there were definitely some parts of the film that were way over the top and completely unnecessary. The movie was hitting 4 hours when it definitely could have been closer to 2 1/2 hours. And as much as I loved SRK, I hated Kajol's character. But all in all, I definitely came out of the theater with immense Khan pride and found the general jist of the film to be inspirational.

First and foremost, people need to learn to differentiate between an artist's unrelated public statements and his/her body of work. In this case, there was no overlap between what Shahrukh Khan said re: Pakistani cricketers' inclusion in the Indian Premier League and his film My Name Is Khan. Not to mention, what he said about Pakistani players was actually utterly right and justified as a key stakeholder in the IPL.

I agree with RK and Leila. Right, he's muslim already so what's the big deal? Plus the movie in general didn't make any specific religion or group look bad, so what's the fuss about? SK has contributed so much to Bollywood with his talents, he ain't goin anywhere!
SK's acting was great as usual, but some parts in the movie were totally random for ex. the hurricane scene!

I think it definitely pushes the Bollywood industry in a new direction, focusing on issues that don't get much attention in the subcontinent. It's controversial in the sense that it sheds light on topics that are generally glossed over in the U.S., but

Not at all. I was very touched by the film. It was a beautiful story.
